What or who is your inspiration?
Like lots of artists there are a lot of illustrators that I admire for their skill, ingenuity and ability to make their characters and stories leap off the page. A couple of my favourite picture book authors are Emily Gravett and Oliver Jeffers. I love Emily’s wit and humour in her stories and they beautiful watercolour illustrations she uses to accompany them. One of my favourites is The Odd Egg. Oliver Jeffers also has such unique and recognisable style and is not afraid to create thought provoking stories which are accessible in a nurturing way to children. His most recent book Meanwhile Back on Earth is just stunning! The colour palette is sumptuous and welcoming which literally makes it pop on the shop book shelves and the story is something everyone should read.
My other huge inspiration has to be Disney. From a very young age I have loved everything Disney but didn’t manage to visit the parks until I was an adult. As an artist and illustrator I love to immerse myself in the world of Disney to see the joy that the stories bring to not only the young but to adults too. It’s truly magical. On my most recent trip to Disneyland Paris I took extra care to note all the intricate details that are in the buildings. I photographed everything and have begun a sketchbook for future inspiration in my work.
So I’m curious to know, who or what inspires you?
